Is the Roomba 562 just a 560 w/ the pet upgrade kit?

Postby Danner » September 13th, 2008, 9:32 pm

I'm wanting a Roomba just for all the dog hair from our 2 Golden Retrievers floating around on our wood floors. Is the difference between the 560 and the 562 just the pet upgrade included as standard on the Roomba 562?

IS there a pet upgrade kit for the 5-series ???

Postby rissacher » September 18th, 2008, 8:40 am

As far as I know, there is no pet upgrade kit for the 5 series Roombas, just the 4 series. Can anybody correct me on that?

I have the exact same question as the original post. Most of my Roomba's duties (I have a scheduler now, looking to add a new brother to the family) are cleaning pet hair. However, I'm currently NOT planning to buy a 532 or 562 (looking at a 550 at Costco). I don't see the additional dust bin as a useful feature since the larger one requires not using the vacuum (just the sweeper) which I think I'll need on 99% of my cleaning runs. I am curious about any other brush differences and such designed to deal with pet hair though.

Anybody have a side-by-side comparison of 532 vs. 530, and/or 562 vs 560 ?

Anybody know why the new 532 and 562 will be better for pets than all the other 5 series?

If its a new brush set and its not available as an upgrade for other 5 series Roombas, maybe it will be released soon?

Danner, I would *think* that is the only difference between the 560 and 562. Just the different brushes and maybe a new look on the cleaning tools.

rissacher, iRobot did come out with a 5xx Pet Series Roomba. You can check them out HERE.

While we are on the subject of new bots, the model 610 at $599 seems to me to be a 560 with a rugged looking orange cover and a plastic molded case for the extra parts.

What would they have done to it to make it more "beefy" and able to "clean more areas" and "2 yr mfg warranty"?

You can read RoombaExchanges' report on the 6XX model. Needless to say, no improvement to the Cleaning Head Module gearing arrangement.

I bought a 562 thinking it would do a better job with our Golden Retriever'd hair. The brushes are slightly different, but the poor design of the rubber paddle brush and the cheap plastic gearbox haven't changed.

It's essentially the same unit as the 550 I bought from Costco with a couple of extra brushes. Most likely, I'll be returning it before the 30 days are up. In my opinion, it's not worth the more than $100 premium.

mrschwarz,

Thank you for letting us know about your experience with the 562. I figured it was pretty much hype, like the Professional Series Roomba.

562

Postby Nudnik » September 21st, 2008, 1:31 pm

I've had my 562 for about a week now, with two cats, and so far so good. The brushes had a couple of plastic disks near the end of the axle to keep fuzz and hair from getting into the gearbox, but it's my first Roomba so I cannot say if it's different from the 560.

On the carpet the 562 tends to stop once telling me to clean the brushes.

Also my battery is the black Ni-Cd not the Ni-MH.

This evening, I took a careful look at the brushes for the pet series and the brushes for the 550. The squeegee plastic is blue instead of red. The bristle brush is different and will probably do a better job. The horizontal brush has only 3 arms instead of 5.

I installed the pet series brushes in my 550. I'll report back it they do a better job.

So I gather the shape of the bristle and squeegee brushes is the same, but just made of different material?

I'd like to see what you think of it after you put the brushes in the 550. So far, I've been impressed with how my 562 has done, so far, I've only seen one potential irritant, which is the front wheel, and that's easily fixed by taking the cover off and doing a little bit of cleaning near that wheel.

Is the blue brush the petbrush and the red a regular one?
I sell Roomba in Sweden and now 560 and 580 comes with the blue brushes?
But it?s no petmachine? Are these blue brushes on my machines only a improvement of the red brushes? I?m getting comfused here!?!

This is how the brush that comes with 560 and 580 in Sweden looks like.
Is it a petbrush?

I got one of these from IROBOT, my brush broke so I phone the support people up and they sent this brush type to me. I did not own a pet brush before.

not sure why...

to be honest, I have pets so this is good :)

We have another thread here with ongoing discussion about brushes and new style vs old style. Lots of pictures.

I am trying to decide between the 562 (because of the High-Capacity Bin over the 560) and the 570 which are both sold at Costco for nearly the same price. It sounds like the 562 contains a brush that is good for pet hair, would it then be better (for 2 small dogs and a cat) then the 570? We are using it on both hardwood and carpet.

To answer the question of the thread, this website has the 562 listed as "for pets":
http://www.robotreviews.com/buy/roomba-562-pets

Don't know that that is definitive, but it's a start.

I have the 562, it is as far as I can tell the same as 560 but comes with:
extra set of brushes
2 lighthouses
high capacity dirt bin (which I don't use) in addition to vac bin

I don't use the scheduling either!
