Is my 581 Flirting with or Jealous of Mom's 535?

Postby poconogal on March 10th, 2010, 2:28 pm

I think this is strange, but maybe I just don't know enough about how these Roombas work...

While testing out mom's 535, I just got up and went into the dining room where it's vacuuming and I thought I caught a glimpse of something moving under my server. The 535 was vacuuming the area rug under the dining table, but it turned out that I did see something under the server, which accounted for the louder than normal Roomba noise. My 581 was vacuuming the dining room along with the 535. Flirting? Saying hi? Were they on a date? If the 535 bumped the 581, which is charging on its HB in my pantry, could that somehow cause the 581 to start a mission? That's the only thing I can think of. The 581 does his mission every morning at 9 a.m., and completed his mission this moring, right on schedule, so what the heck was it doing running around the dining room with 535? They did make a nice couple, though...

Young Love. You can't always tell what stray IR signals are exchanged. BTW, don't play the Twilight DVD while they are on a mission.

Soon you will have lots of mini-roombas to clean up after :)

Weird, I wonder if the bump activated the roomba somehow. I don't think the 535 sends IR commands.

I should be so lucky, then after they were raised, I could sell them!

It was weird, that's for sure... IR is for LH? 535 has LH capabilities, so maybe...

lol. I'll buy a couple little ones to clean up my desk... Oh yeah no slavery...

The Roomba Revolution has begun! We have no choice but to terminate you... XD

I tried the bumper theory but it didn't work. (I have one 500. It was bumped by a 400 but i don't think that matters...) Do you have LightHouses perhaps?
Cheers! :)

Ben, wouldn't that be cute, some little roombas to dust desks, coffee tables, etc??? Hmmm.... with a pad from Robot Add Ons...

It was probably a stray IR signal that got 581 moving, maybe that along with a bump off HB...

I do have LHs, but they were not lit when the 535 was running (the only one lit was the one that came with the 535), since the others are paired with the 581. Why, what are you thinking?

Well, maybe, the some RF signals from the LightHouse could have got it started. Also, the HB might have been sending IR signals to the 535 and it got intercepted from the 81.
Cheers! :)

Your 581 being bang out of the homebase will try to dock back automatically and during the course might have been bang a few more times by the 535 which then could have make the 581 further off course ending up both flirting under your server.

Jubo, that's it, you've got it! Come to think of it, the 581's dock light WAS flashing, so that's got to be the answer! In fact, the other day my husband bumped it off HB and yes, it drove a bit further away, lined itself up and redocked. Phew, I was worried that I'd have an uprising on my hands... the 3 Roombas, 2 Scoobas and 2 Cleanmates... all plotting together...

Aww... Thanks Jubo. Now it isn't a love fantasy. Great job ruining the story... XD

Heck, this could have been the forum mystery.

Don't worry Ben. We came up with a explanation that makes us believe it was just normal programmed behavior. Who knows what they were really doing? :) Especially when we aren't watching. It may explain why the batteries wear out so quickly....
