Braben has developed a tiny USB stick PC that has a HDMI port in one end and a USB port on the other. You plug it into a HDMI socket and then connect a keyboard via the USB port giving you a fully functioning machine running a version of Linux. The cost? $25.

The hardware being offered is no slouch either. It uses a 700MHz ARM11 processor coupled with 128MB of RAM and runs OpenGL ES 2.0 allowing for decent graphics performance with 1080p output confirmed. Storage is catered for by an SD card slot. It also looks as though modules can be attached such as the 12MP camera seen in the image above.

We can expect it to run a range of Linux distributions, but it looks like Ubuntu may be the distro it ships with. That means it will handle web browsing, run office applications, and give the user a fully functional computer to play with as soon as it’s plugged in. All that and it can be carried in your pocket or on a key chain.

This looks Brilliant and even has a HDMI Port for OpenGL 1080p graphics output!!

Nice, but you are going to need a lot more hardware to control a robot. The next step may be to develope a carrier board with a USB hub and a robot control section.

Agreed but I'm assuming as the brains this would be great as you can run a full Linux OS on it which should in theory make development a bit easier?

I'm no expert on this so I'd luv to hear the thoughts of the real robot hackers on this forum. I'm no good at programming but I suspect even I could make use of this little beauty. :)

It is 25 dollars...! What is the power source... Since it has USB, it'd be easy to add a servo controller or motor controller... Too bad it can't run Windows yet...

Great find!

LOL! No, no one hacked my account. Windows is a good robotics platform. Theres not much serial support for mac...

While we're on the subject, someone get OS X to run on that thing!!!

with 128mb ram you'd be better of running iOS on it which is OSX designed for ARM and small ram - heck the spec's read like an iPhone 3G.

The other option would be android.

Back on topic, this is really amazing. But he's probably not making any profit on it, since its a non-profit... He should set it up so its 2 for 50, one goes to Africa.

yeah that would be neat, I'd happily pay $50 for 1 when they are available. :)
