Roomba 560 Screeching?

Postby greg8325 » June 20th, 2011, 2:47 pm

I have a Roomba 560 that just started screeching. I thought it was the side brush module so I replaced it as well as clean the brushes. The screeching seemed to quite down a little bit but it still does a screeching sound while cleaning. Does anyone know what this is coming from and how best to fix it?

Try removing the side brush module then run a cleaning mission to see if the noise continues. If so then try running a cleaning mission without the CHM installed. If the noise continues try running a cleaning mission without the dust bin. If the noise continues then it may be coming from one of the two drive motors.

Ok, so I took out the brushes and the noise seemed to go away. Does that mean the Roomba chm needs to be replaced?

It may be that the brush deck gear assembly has issues with the two spinning brushes. With the brushes removed the noise lessens so that could mean there is something causing the brushes not to spin correctly. Inspect the two yellow plastic bushings (one on each brush) for debris build-up. Also if equipped, remove the two large yellow plastic rings installed on the large bristle brush and see if the noise ceases.

I took out the chm to see if there was a problem with the gears. There were some gears missing teeth, a ton of debris and one of the bent pins. So I ordered a new black chm which I hear is the best one for this model. Hopefully with a new chm my problem will get solved!

you may want to consider relapsing the shielded ball bearing with sealed ones as the shielded ones in the chm at the moment can get debris inside the bearings causing them to clog up and stop working
