Scooba 450 not laying down water

Post by chappy »

I have a brand new Scooba 450 that runs a full 40 minute cycle but doesn't lay down any water. After the cycle, the clean tank is full and the empty tank empty.

I have updated to the latest firmware as well as checked the three connector pins. Everything looks in order.

Is there anything else I can test? Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?

Thanks Guys.

Put it into the Built in Test mode and see if you can hear the water pump motor run.

Thanks for the response vic7767. I can't seem to find the "Built in Test mode" procedure for the Scooba 450. Where would I find it?

@chappy there is no published 450 Scooba procedure to enter the BiTs mode but I did post how to do it in this thread:
http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewto ... =4&t=18181

At the end of the first post is a picture of what buttons to press to enter the BiTs. Since you have already flashed the firmware using the iRobot website the same PC can be used and connected to the 450 com port using a USB-A connector on one end of a cable and a micro USB connector on the other. Once the connection is made then the driver will be loaded and a com port built. Then use a com program like Tera Term or Realterm to read the data.

Make sure to leave some cleaning fluid in the clean tank to test the pump motor.

Hi, I am having same problem. Out of the 700ml tank, my new 450 is only using 350ml of water. There is only what seems to be about 50ml of dirty water in the dirty tank when done. This is after running it on the max setting. Is this normal or is it not laying down enough water?

Thank you

If you have selected Large Room and when finished only half of the cleaning fluid is used then something is wrong with the liquid pump. Contact iRobot for possible warranty support.

New here-- have Scooba 450 purchased 4-2015. From start--not much water in dirty tank when completed cycle. Did update per irobot---still only about 1-2 oz water in dirty tank. Received new replacement Scooba within a week (from irobot). Still same issue. Did another update (per irobot) on the new replacement Scooba. Worked okay for about a month. Now will not put water down. We blew air through the water passages--still nothing. Tanks are clean. Anyone else with same issue?

Don't blow air through the pump line. Inject water. You can also put the 450 Scooba into the Built in Test mode and advance to Factory Test 15 (Pump) and let the cleaning liquid from the clean tank get pumped through the tubing system and exit through the outlet jets.

Thank you. Tried this. Started the unit up (all charged up) and now it just turns on --does not move at all. What a huge waste of money. Hoping Neato comes out with one soon. Love both of my Neato units-- still have older Scooba which also does not work (green light on--does nothing when turning on). The Discovery irobot--500 Pet series--total junk--- works but does not pick up--moves dust bunnies around and they collect underneath--nothing in bin---totally cleaned unit months ago--still not working. irobot needs to make some changes.

so disappointed.

If you learn to read what iRobot devices are telling you, they are not bad. iRobot should have a better user manuals.

Is there any warning light, like check tank etc, on your 450?

450- no warning light. Water tank clean water; dirty tank cleaned and empty, fully charged. When I turn it on now, it makes the 'noise' (i.e.--that it is in fact on/engaged), however, it now does not move at all--remains in the same place. The room size is all set etc....

The older Scooba simply does nothing. Green light shows charge but 'says' nothing and does nothing.

irobot Pet Series does show wheels move when dust bin is not in place. Hubby took entire panel off and carefully vacuumed all parts--there is no debris left within this robot. I have always immediately cleaned all brushes and dustbin, front wheel etc.... each and every time I had run it.

thank you for your help---hoping that someone will be able to solve this:)

The initial noise is the water pump to pump water through the clean water present sensor. If Scooba does not get the clean water present signal, it will not goes into next stage and turn on the check tank light. This is how the old Scooba works. I don't have a 450. vic7767 may be able to help you.

What color is the information button?
According to the manual, press the information button to troubleshoot errors if the information button is blinking or steady yellow.

This thread is going off topic about Roombas and earlier model Scoobas. I will respond about the Scooba 450. I do not understand why my first suggestion of placing the 450 Scooba into Factory test 15 (water pump) was not attempted. This is where the investigation should begin. Other iRobot models that need help should have their own threads started.

Sorry, vic7767, you are right. I removed the old Scooba and Roomba info. If Charmers wants to debug them, please post them in other threads.

No problem TechGuy, the OP needs to start new threads for their other robots and issues. That way future searches of subjects will indicate possible solutions within the perspective thread for the subject matter being discussed.

My apologies to both of you. I guess I should have done my homework on how the forums are addressed.

FYI-- took Scooba apart again--completely re-cleaned wheels and inside squeegee brushes. Now it is running again--but not a drop of water is put down. I may have to call irobot as this is only a few months old.
I do thank you for your help.
