Roomba 510 Cliff sensor

Post by veej »

Hi All,
My roomba 510 started to move in a counter clock wise circle. If the left bumper was pressed, it would still try to complete the circle forcefully. I thought that the bumper IRs were bad and so I replaced the two IRs for left and right bumbers. Same Problem.
Next I found out about the automated test sequence and tried it. Tests for LED, left and right bumper sensors and outer cliff sensors passed. The next test for inner cliff sensor, I lifted the roomba and put my hand in front of the left inner sensor and it beeped indicating success. When I put my hand over the right inner cliff sensor, there was only one beep and the test went into a mode that indicated a failure. I believe that at this point the dirt detect LED was turning on one long and two shorts.
I then got out of the automated mode and went into manual test. Same issue with the cliff sensor. But in any case I kept jumping to the next tests and verified that both the wheels were working fine.
My question: Is the IR LED on the sensor bad or is it the drive circuit? I don't know what parts to change nor do I have part numbers. I wouldn't mind changing all parts concerned since they are very inexpensive. My repair and soldering skills are very good. Unfortunately, I don't have schematics and have not been able to find it either. :(
Therefore your help and advice will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Veej
