Installed new battery, now Roomba won't charge

Postby priorm » December 5th, 2006, 11:57 pm

I recently bought and installed and new battery pack for my roomba red. Here's the link to the battery pack:

http://www.all-battery.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1035

I was able to get the battery to charge a few times, but not without first removing the battery. Once the battery charged, the Roomba ran great.

Now, the charging light on the roomba does not illuminate when I plug it in to charge and the battery does not charge. The light on the charger is on.

Has anyone else experienced this? This problem started after installing the new battery.[/url]

Try resetting your Roomba by removing the battery, unplug the charging connector, hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. This will reset the charging system, replace your battery, connect your charger and see what happens. By the way do you also have a homebase ? If so try that too.

Reset Already Attemped... no luck

Postby priorm » December 6th, 2006, 9:51 am

I tried the reset, but did not have any luck. Still no charging lights on the Roomba.

I don't have the charging base.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Sorry to hear that. Basically you are left with two issues. The first is possibly another defective battery, second, the charging system has malfunctioned. Either the external charger or the internal charging system has failed.

Postby priorm » December 6th, 2006, 10:11 pm

Has anyone else installed this battery successfully? Has anyone had problems with performance after installing this battery?

I've installed a similar package from a different vendor on ebay that also provided a triangle driver. The battery pack performed good, and is still working. If you have a voltmeter measure the charger output. Also measure the battery voltage.

Charging Problems

Postby cwbot » December 9th, 2006, 7:28 pm

I also have Roomba charging problems. I still have a minute or two of power left in the battery, but when I plug it in, I get no lights on the Roomba. The charger light is on and I went through the charger reset procedure that you described with no luck. The first Roomba that I had only lasted two weeks before something like this happend. I exchanged it at Sears and this one has lasted about 8 months. Any suggestions?

What unit is it ?
Are you using a charging base or plug in the side?
Is the charging brick green light flashing or steady green?

No lights at all on the Roomba. The only light is steady green on charger.

I experienced the same scenario. There was a thunder storm, I replaced the charger, homebase, and finally the battery from the same source. It ran for about a week. I unplugged the homebase while away on a trip. When I returned, it wouldn't charge. Nothing on the roomba lights up. The "reset trick" doesn't help. ??

what is the dc output voltage on the charging jack when it is not plugged into the roomba ? also, what voltage do you read on the battery when it is removed from the roomba ?

The charger is at 21.82 volts , the battery i s currently reading 2.1 volts. It was at 4 volts, but I hooked it to a 13.88 v charger (for car batteries) and charged it up to 12 volts. It was a small current and took several hours. I then put it back on the home base. The red light came on, for about 10 seconds I felt really smart and started to dance around, then it went off again. I left it on the home base and it gradually discharged to it's current 2 volts.

I had the same problems recently, and I just bought an external charger on Amazon. It works fine now.

You must not disconnect the power supply and leave the Roomba sitting on the base station
That will result in the battery being completely discharged
After two weeks in that state the battery will be dead

This is detailed in the Roomba fine print

ok on your battery there is 3 contacts 2 on the bottom 1 on the side
Check the one on the side of the battery remove any tape, or debris
and in your roomba(were your battery goes) you will see were the contact on the side of the battery lines up and
check to make sure that no tape, or debris are covering that contact

I Hope That Your Problem Is Resolved
