Utilitarian hacks? Hack archives?

Postby starejosel » December 25th, 2006, 12:08 am

This is really two questions:
(1) Are there any archives of hacks for the Roomba?
(2) Are there any hacks that are actually meant to be useful for vacuuming?
I would like a "rug cycle" that vacuums a rug; it should detect the edge of
the rug (on wood or tile floor) and turn to stay on the rug. I imagine that
other people can think of other utilitarian hacks; it would be great if these
were available.

Thanks all

Sorry, there are no archived hacks here. There are no hacks available on this forum to perform what you are looking for. You could possible write your own program using some of the interface tools and software that have been discussed here.

There are various links in discussions here that occasionally point to somebody's blog or web page that discusses some sort of hack that they've done on/to their Roomba, but there's nothing collected together in a single place.

There's todbot's Hacking Roomba book which contains a bunch of different Roomba projects that people have worked on individually, but that's about as close as I can think of to any sort of collection or list.

Check hackingroomba.com for online listings form hacking rooomba by Tod E. Kurt

We have been putting up source code for any hacks that we have been writing like the Roomba personalities, roomba scheduling and roomba frogger video game. Written in VB and C# www.myroombud.com/itsalive.html myroombud.com/miad4.html

You can grab anything you want and continue to hack it. We are also trying to use the Microsoft Robotics Studio with little luck. Hopefully now that it is release, we can get something going with it.

Rug cycle

Postby starejosel » December 26th, 2006, 12:53 pm

Thanks everyone for your suggestions;
does anyone have an idea how hard it
would be to make a rug cycle?

You could try using some black poster paper around the edges of the rug. You would be taking advantage of the cliff sensor detectors and the basic roomba software that is resident already on your robot. This way there is no other hacking effort required. You wouldn't need additional hardware and software.
