HEPA filters (and other cool stuff) for Roomba now available.

I have resisted buying a Roomba for many years due to the fact that we are a family that seems to be prone to colds and the flue and like my mom, always insisted on a vacuum with a HEPA filter.  Finally, a HEPA filter is available for Roomba (along with some other interesting items) that pushed me over the edge to buy one.

I am so glad we did and now can relax while Roomba does the work.  I am also new to this forum and am amazed by how well structured it is.  My friends have told me about it and now I am here to stay.  I purchased the items from Amazon at:

Good luck everyone.

Free Roomba Microfiber Floor Cleaning Pad Giveaway

Hi All, So I just checked the web site that makes HEPA filters for Roomba and they are now giving away a free Microfiber cleaning pad to some limited amount of customers! I guess you pay for shipping but what the heck, what a great way to try out a new product. I asked them if they were having more giveaways and they said to check back often as they will occasionally do a giveaway to help people better understand their products. They are Robot Add-Ons and they can be found at this link: http://www.robotaddons.com/products.html

Hate to (possibly) pee on the parade

HEPA vacuums need stronger motors to force air through the "tighter" filter. I'm concerned that adding a HEPA filter to the Roomba when it wasn't designed for it will actually lead to reduced cleaning because of lower suction. On the other hand, it could be that the Roomba already has a strong enough vacuum motor to handle HEPA filtration. Have there been any reviews/studies about these filters to suggest one way or the other?

ok for HEPA in Roomba

Good question, I asked the folks that make the HEPA filter. I also realized our Dirt Dog robot has no vacuum at all and does a great job on our cellar floor (???). Anyway, this was their reply: "Our development shows the standard Roomba filter is a single layer paper element that clogs very easily. Our HEPA design is a two stage filter with a specific foam construction on the outer layer to capture the large debris particles and hold them in suspension. This allows the HEPA type material to get maximum air flow from within the foam and not just on its surface. The unique structure of the foam also allows the dirt particles to become dislodged very easily and therefore is easily cleaned. Our engineers have verified this filter will long surpass the standard filter and has led to several significant patents. We can assure you your Roomba will clean the floor just as well, but will now also clean the air you breathe."
