Sharper Image eVac review

The eVac has been off of the market for at least 4 years. I finally have a review ready, as I received a eVac recently.

The eVac overview

From looking at the eVac it looks like a normal robotic vacuum that will clean effectively. I have found it does miss some spots and overclean some areas. I would suggest a Roomba to go along with your eVac because you need to have the Roomba vacuum after eVac is done.

It has Soft/Hard setting to accommodate floor surfaces. I always use hard as this makes the battery (which is very short lived, only about 20-30 minutes) last longer.

The battery is a NiMh 12V 4.5 AH Rechargeable. It is very short-lived. Mine can usually not last more that 15 min., but I keep the eVac because I don't want someone else to tire of it then throw it out. I only use it for entertainment.

It has 3 timer settings, 15, 30, and Max clean.

The eVac has several modes it uses to clean the floor: S shape, room crossing, and 3 types of wall following. I repeat: 3 types of wall following. :o

The eVac comes with 4 traffic cones to block off areas that you don't want it to go.

It also comes with a RF remote. This is extremely useful to get the eVac out of under a table when it is done. It also allows you to turn off the vacuum only for manual driving.

TEST

I have tested the eVac on paper punches as recommended here.

I turned it on and it played a cheerful tune. Then I used the remote to drive it over the punches on the hard floor setting. It cleaned up every last one on the first try.

I tried it on industrial carpet on hard floor setting. Same results: every punch is picked up.

The eVac has found a lot of dust/debris even though it only cleans hard floor. I have found it also has some sort of confetti supply. When I go to clean it, I always find a piece or two of confetti in the dustbin.

I would overall give the eVac a 8 out of 10. It is almost perfect, but it does need a little more work.

Hope you like the review!

It doesn't look like the

It doesn't look like the average vacuum bot. It looks like a lawn mower! :) I mean look at those wheels!

8/10!!!!

How can you give the eVac an 8/10 rating when you have to send your Roomba out after it to finish the job???

djos- The reason I have

djos- The reason I have given the eVac a 8/10 rating is because I like its functionality. I like everything about it except for 1 major flaw: programming. It can sometimes, while in wall following mode, smash against walls AND stress its motors at the same time. Cheers, cleanmateroomba

Perhaps a 6/10 would have been more appropriate?

Perhaps a 6/10 would have been more appropriate? Personally I'd rate my 562PE an 8/10 and it only looses points for being a/ dumb (I'd luv a smart laser guided roomba) and b/ coming with a Ni-Cad battery as standard. It gets 8 points tho for being a damn good robot vacuum cleaner and working as advertised. :-)
