I only have one dog, but I'm going to throw in my two cents worth re: Roomba overwhelmed. The best way I've found for Roomba to deal with the hair/dirt is to run it frequently. Don't let the hair build up! Twice a week in the heaviest traffic rooms works for me with only one pet, but I've seen posts...

March of the consumer robots

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6250621.stm

(Maybe that should be January of the consumer robots! )

Interesting article primarily about Asimo, but also mentions Roomba and Robosapiens, among others.

Civil rights for robots?

Reality bytes: Robots could demand independence POSTED: 9:13 a.m. EST, December 21, 2006 LONDON, England (AP) -- Civil rights for robots? It could be coming. A study released by the British government says someday robots might become so advanced, they could demand their independence. The United King...

I had a similar problem with my Roomba. I noticed it was running much more quietly than usual. I ran it through the diagnostic tests and discovered the brushes weren't turning. I got a regular Bic pen and poked at the brushes with it while in the diagnostic test mode where the brushes should be turn...

Could the home base be the problem? You mention the corner is "not more than 3 feet from home base." Could it be that Roomba somehow manages to get past the home base to get into the corner, but it's picking up the IR beam and not getting out? My suggestion would be to move the home base t...

I block off my tree with a VWU, mostly to keep it from bumping against the stand and knocking it over. When I take the tree down I'll run Roomba around. I did use Roomba to clean up after a wreath. It shed all over the floor when I was hanging it. Roomba had no problem picking up the needles. They w...

How about a "dirty" Limerick:

There once was a geek who was a slob.
Everytime she thought about cleaning she'd sob.
The dog would shed
But she'd stay in bed
While the Roomba took care of the dirty job!

Scooba doesn't really vacuum - it blows dust and dirt out of its path into a small filter. Just as you would sweep before mopping, you need to remove large particles from the floor before running Scooba. I would recommend running Roomba first, then Scooba. Scooba is not the be-all-end-all cleaning r...

Hmm, that's definitely a new use! I don't think it would be very effective, though. Like you said, it would run only about 2 hours, then would charge for 3. So right there it's only working 40% of the time. I suppose you could get 3 Schedulers and program them to overlap so that at least one's alway...

Do you have dark carpet and/or rugs near the furniture in question? Sometimes Roomba thinks it's on the edge of a cliff on dark/black surfaces and tries to back away from the cliff. I had that issue with a black hall runner - kept finding Roomba trying to climba backwards up the wall. The easiest so...

You should be careful using the Scooba on hardwood floors - make sure they are completely sealed before use! Otherwise, over time you will get damage as the water seeps into the cracks/scratches. I haven't been brave enough to try my Scooba on my hardwood floor yet (just on tile) because my floors a...

I have hardwood floors with several area and throw rugs. Main issue: Tassles! If there are any tassles on your rugs, you'll have to do something so that Roomba doesn't suck them up into his works. There are several suggestions floating around on this forum. Basically, they boil down to cutting them ...

If you read the description, it doesn't say anything about Scheduling capabilities. The picture is definitely a little misleading at best! Also, the manufacturer's "list price" is $249.99, which is much less than the $329.99 that iRobot is charging.

That's funny - I think of the skinny ones as the new ones and the pyramids as the old ones! The skinny ones resemble the one I got with my Scooba (except the scooba one is blue). My scooba VW operates exactly the same as the pyramids. Neither has scheduling capabilities. The skinny ones are much eas...

Upgrading to "easy clean"

mrwgt and sorka2, do you use a normal Roomba on the rest of your floors? Does it scuff the finish with it's wheels or brushes? I use a pen knife to cut the hairs. It's easier to get into the tight spaces at the ends of the brushes. The sharp tip works much better than the Roomba cleaning tool, which is too fat to fit between the hair and the brush sometimes. I would think the suggestion of the seam ripper would work pretty ...
