Neato Self Emptying Mod
About a year ago, I made a thread to discuss the idea of self emptying Neato robot (original thread: http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=22476 ). Throughout it, many ideas were discussed. Recently I had a chance to really spend some time on it, and complete my self emptying mod...

Re: Neato D5 dirt bin pops open
At the front of the dust bin there's a small rectangular "notch" that hangs down. Highlighted in the picture below: notch.jpg Make sure there's no debris stuck in here (Unlikely). This notch sits into the body of the robot in which there's a spring loaded latching mechanism that should pus...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
I could use more description of how you are detecting the Neato is docked, as I had tried a variety of ways at one time. I use a hc-sr04 sonar distance sensor, to look down at the top of the vacuum. When I see it leave the base station, I mark it as "Roaming" and run a timer for Minimum R...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
Update! It works! I spent the last couple of weeks working on the base station. Essentially its just an arm that comes out from the back of the base station. The arm moves up and down via a 8mm threaded rod and a stepper motor. And then 2 static 8mm rods to keep it straight. At the end of the arm, t...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
Kind of a big update on this. I stopped working on this awhile ago. I got discouraged after the many test prints. The model I had designed fit pretty well, however it seems like the D series dirt bin really doesn't like minor (like < 2mm) differences. So I was continually tweaking and reprinting. Th...

Re: VR300 firmware download... Neato..
Check your PMs/Inbox. Would be interested in knowing if it works.Hence why I was asking Scapegoat here for a copy of the firmware, in the hope that it would allow my D5 to be registered on Neato's servers again... Living in hope!

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
You did not specify what sort of vacuum you connected to it. The major difference would be between a small hand held vacuum and a full size vacuum. I used this Dirt Devil upright vacuum: https://www.dirtdevil.com/pro-power-cyclonic-upright-vacuum/UD70172.html However, it doesn't matter because what...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
Just an update, here's an image of the latest design. I've printed the hatch portion using TPU which is a flexible material. This seems to give a reliable living hinge that consistently flips closed. Need to do some more test cleanings with it. Right now it fits pretty well but looks like the lid is...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
Just an update. Still working on this, trying to figure out the best 3D Printable design for the hatch/door in the top of the dirt bin. Right now I've tried a pin hinge and a living hinge. The living hinge is the simplest but not guaranteed to close all the way. The pin hinge has a lot of friction s...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
Just an update, I have completed bin design so that it replicates (closely enough). The original Neato bin. I have it running in my robot now and will have it run with it over the next few days to evaluate its airflow (really should use an anemometer). So far seems to be working. I'm now going to st...

Re: D6 Connected Lost
So here's an updated: I cleared my persistent floor plan, and then ran a floor plan creation cleanup. The Neato cleaned the whole house without issues and went back to its dock. For some reason, once it docked it didn't tell me "Cleanup completed" and did not save the floor plan. This was ...

D6 Connected Lost
So I've had my D6 Connected for a few weeks now and it has been working great. However, a few days ago when it was cleaning I noticed it started going over areas that it had already cleaned. Then all of a sudden it was "stuck" (on nothing), and so I moved it a foot and started it again and...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
Interesting project, im definitely in if you need help. I can contribute with basic Fusion 360 skills, i have Prusa i3MK3S printer, Neato D5 and Connected. Awesome! I would love some help. From the looks of it your Fusion 360 skills are quite a bit better than mine (I've learned a lot since startin...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
Just a little update, last night I 3D printed the bin model and put it together (printed in pieces). I used a thick layer of gap filling JB weld, which should seal the seams where the parts connect. The bin looks to be a good fit, filter clicks in nicely and it fits perfectly in the vac. Next step i...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
Still working on getting all the measurements perfect for the bin. Doing a lot of test prints, getting the filter to fit perfectly has been a slight challenge. In the meantime, does anyone know the name of the stripping that's used around the entry-way of the bin? I was looking at foam weather strip...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
Over the past few days I have mainly been focusing on designing and printing the Neato bin, that way I can start really playing around with this (without messing up the original bin) Here's what I have so far. Printing a full test assembly tonight: https://i.ibb.co/TKbBpQm/bin.png Docks with pin con...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
Just mocked up a quick (well took me long) CAD design. The concept here right now is simple, top of the dirt bin has a square whole in it. There's a plastic top that closes around it with room for weather stripping to help create a seal. When the base station/vac goes over the top (not pictured) the...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
For raising and lowering the vacuum hose or pipe, robotics supply includes linear actuators, e.g. at servocity.com https://www.servocity.com/motors-actuators/linear-actuators Might work with the cabinet and plunger design. Linear actuators are generally quite expensive. There should be another way ...

Re: [Idea] Neato Self Emptying
I did design a mod for the Neato consisting of a spring loaded cover for an opening in the top which could open just under suction pressure from an attached vacuum. This sounds similar to what I had in mind, I'm curious where was the spring in relation to the cover? Was it there to push the cover d...

Re: VR300 firmware download... Neato..
Still need to do more research to determine that. Since the ".bin" seems to have a Neato header at the top (version info, model info, etc) it's possible that Neato compresses or encrypts the image somehow.jdredd wrote:Need to find a tool that can handle the QNX Neutrino flavor I take it.. ?
