PROBLEM SOLVED!!
If you are using a Duemilanove, IT DOESN'T WORK!! I tried that. The resistors on it or something keep it from talking to Roomba. So I got a Diecimila, and EUREKA!!!! it works!!!
I'm sending the problem to Italy soon.
