This will be phase one of how to take your 230 Scooba apart. I ran out of time tonight but wanted to get some info posted to help those that want to VOID THEIR WARRANTY and fix things themselves.

First it is wise to empty the internal bladder completely and also remove the battery.

The image posted is four .gif pictures of the beginning procedure up to the point of releasing the front bumper.

As a long time hacker on this forum, voiding warranties just becomes part of the process in disassembly. Sometimes difficulties arrive and you wind up destroying what you are trying to take apart but that is also part of being a hacker and possibly you help someone else avoid a pitfall along the way.

One more discovery, the two drive wheels can be unsnapped from the motor shaft.

Yes, it's even mentioned in the user's manual.

Vic, just out of curiosity - have you tried to disassemble the rest of the 'side-body' from your 230's?

At this point I have not discovered any entry avenues to continue dis-assembly of the 230 Scooba. This thread is open for those hackers that would like to contribute their discoveries in this effort.

So you just won't to open it but it is not impossible and will not cause any damage in Scooba functionality? I ask because the auction which I mention about in another thread ends up tomorrow and I wonder if it's worth to go for it

From what I can tell, the 230 is not assembled like the earlier Roomba and Scooba models. The 230 appears to have some sections glued together instead of using screws.

The 230 does have the Built in test program installed, however there is no Service Manual presently available that one could use to interpret the tests.

Probably one think which I MUST to know is if the internal bladder is a separate="easy to replace part" ('screws') OR an integral="not exchangeable" part of the Scooba's body ('glued together').

The other question is............... If I can get it apart, where are the new bladder components to replace a defective one ? I know the usual place for parts would be from a donor 230 but I have not seen spare parts offered on the normal websites.

so, it's just very expensive "single-use" thing...like these disposable cameras - not for repair.

I think it's still too early to say either way. When a new model is introduced, there is a delay in the ability of ordering spare parts, especially with iRobot.

Vic, What does the text on the right of the fourth image say? Black on Black is a little hard to read.

The text on the right side of the third image says "Push up on both sides of the front bumper"

The fourth image has text displayed in White.

Did you go further in disassembly ?

Do you know what kind of sensors are in the bumper ?
Not the cliff sensors, but the bump sensors.
