IFA 2011 - Samsung Navibot S (Europe)

Post by piokrza »

Honestly? I doubted if Samsung is going to show this year any new robot vacuum cleaner, beside these which was: the new gen - Samsung Tango Stealth (at the beginning of 2011) and especially its "View" model in Korea, and Samsung Navibot Silencio (on the IFA 2011, also) in Europe. The END of new products this year? Not yet! :)

At this year's IFA 2011 exhibition, Samsung just launched a quite new robot - Navibot S. According to the source and guessing from the pic, this is just a re-designed Navibot plus it has evolutionary mod - self-emptying dock station with 2 litre bag-less dustbin in-dock capacity. New one detects itself when its build-in bin need to be emptied and go to the base when needed. The main brush will be cleaned, also.

The new robot is able to clean its main brush and empty its internal bin from dust at its dock. Moreover, it's now oblate - just 8cm in height (before: 9,3cm) and 10% smaller than it's predecessor.

Thanks for upgraded Visionary Mapping Plus System the robot can clean much faster - 320mm/sec (Navibot/Tango - 280mm/s, Navibot Silencio/Tango Stealth - 300mm/sec), smoother (turns at 120 deg/sec) and safer than its predecessors. Sensors gets upgrade as well. To compare - now it takes only 11 minutes to clean an 5x5m (25 sq m) area - previus 19 minutes.

Navibot S has dust sensor - he will detect more dirty areas and concentrate on them more. This is not the end - he will boost its cleaning power (main brush spin and vacuum power) in this stage. Everything to clean more effective.

The new Navibot will be quiet.

The colour is stylish and sleek black (silver version in video clip).

Navibot S will be available later this year. No word about price as yet.

More about "S" at IFA 2011 http://www.geeks.hu/blog/ifa_2011/11090 ... _navibot_s

According to the source there are at least 3 new models - from the basic one, with charge station, to the premium model - with self-empty/clean/charge station.

The S looks lovely, isn't it. We definitely need to congratulate Samsung with the way they "design" their products.
(They bought the Karcher technology).

Is it really efficient to suck the bin empty via the "bottom". Isn't it a wiser idea to empty the bin on top. I really believe sometimes, debris gets sticked on the "bottom" plate.

(Give Samsung another year and they'll present us devices with the quality of the "Galaxy Tab", a comparable device for the Ipad (when you're loving Android).

Design is not the most important thing in these devices.More is that get slimmer and "better" at cleaning (we'll see after tests).

where??? :?

For the first - Karcher RC3000/4000 is a bagged design - Samsung bag-less.
Second - quite another inlet design - Karcher more simple (just a pipe), Samsung - wide inlet with comb part for effective hair removal.

I believe that the new "S" has been optimized for emptying the dust in this way - they (samsung engineers) probably know it better than us ;)

lol :D little off-topic, but don't forgot to admit that many of the key iPad components is provided by Samsung ;)

Hm... When I first saw this pictureImage,I thought there's no changes in the bottom of the bot.
Now I notice there's a slight difference in main brush width...

Hope this, together with dust sensor would reslt in better cleaning...

Some previous vids of SR8895 looks dissapointing:

RC3000's behaiour looks much more adequate and it's suction power seems sufficient ( from ~3:25):

Turbo in SR8895 is only trigered with remote control, as comes from it's manual.
As staded here and here new series is equipped with dust sensor, so may be it's able to trigger the same mode automatically.

Firmware upgrade ability could be usefull too....

Well... Total ownership cost depends on reliability too.

Everything seems to indicate that Karcher is more reliable then Roomba. I don't think it's total ownersip cost is greater then Roomba's.

On the other hand, I found not too much info about navibot's reliability... Hope, it's closer to Karcher's then to iRobot's...

From features point of view, Navibot S looks amazing. But ... two years ago, Navibot looked as the best robot on paper .. after I bought it, it became the biggest disappointment of my robot collection. Simply, it's too unreliable and in fact stupid (goes only in right angles and is not able to cope with complicated small areas, bumps into things hard, loses dust, not enough suction power, etc.).

Are there any signs that Navibot S could be better?

They don't mention about any improvements from 'mechanical' side of cleaning ability (suction, faster rotating brush etc.), apart from wider main brush. Other "key" features which will improve the overall cleaning ability are: new/more sensors, improved navigation sw - new cleaning algorithm (moves in circular lines) and dirt detect sensor. Also, the dustbin was re-engineered - removed filter compartment - so now the suction power is spread over the entire surface of the bin. Also, they add a movable flap, into the dustbin cover, to prevent from escaping dust during pulling the bin out. The mesh and HEPA filter are now separate things (unlike previous Navibot/Tango), so here it seems like they go back to the Furot II design (SR9630). Almost everything which we see seems to be more compact than in previous "Tango" (robot height, dustbin capacity), except for the main brush, which is now wider, and side brushes - they're the same. Also, manufacturer said that suction motor/rotor is 'tiny' (smaller than before??), but powerfull. I wonder if the suction power was improved.

Yes, 1st week of January we've got the new ones without self-emptying base. 1st week February the other one (with the self-emptying base). We've got the official ones from Samsung Benelux.

We're the first one in the Benelux having them.
Only the Silencio is now deliverable....
