Is this a really good deal then? I purchased a sage with convience pack for my grandma awhile back but now I'm looking at purchasing an additional roomba, and I'm reading lots of problems with the 500 series and IMO I dont see alot of improvement on roomba yet, but this i could get for around 135 dollers, what exactly is the difference between the White roomba discovery and discovery special edition? Sorry maybe a dumb question but I'm not sure

This is a great deal. :D I've purchased several buy.com Roombas. This Roomba can be scheduled if you have the scheduling remote. The price includes the home base which many of us love.

Now don't get me wrong.... I do adore my 5xx Roombas and I'm phasing out using 4xxx's all around my house but some are staying as they do a good job too. I use the 4xxx's predominately in areas that don't require me to clean them after every mission. And, I have Discoveries and Sages. On my tile the Discoveries are quieter running than the Sages. Of course the 5xx's are very QUIET. That and their ease and speed of 'bot clean out are high priorities for me but I have an extreme amount of dust and dog hair in my main living area and we frequently run the 5xx's while using the area.

The 5xx's do handle denser carpet better than the 4xxx'x.

Well my other roomba, is used mainly on medium pile carpet, this roomba is going to get lots of laminet and linolieum flooring. I have been reading topics about like 500 series vs. discovery and many are still saying the disco's clean pet hair better, which there is massive amounts of in my house. 2- labs 1-rat terrier and 1-collie but I just want to make the right discision, should I buy now for about half the price of a 500 series, or is it worth saving up a little longer to get the new 500 series.

P.S. What would you say my chances of getting a swivel castor with the new vertual walls from buy.com?

Fancyfreewv and I probably have the majority of dog hair here on the forum. Hers is from Shelties (long) and mine is from Mastiffs (more close to Lab coat) and Rotties and one long haired 74 lb Briard (she sheds much less than the others). We both are totally dedicated to our 5xx series and staunchly defend them. But I still use the 4xxx series in areas that don't require a cleaning after each run (less canine activity in those places). The 5xx's are certainly much faster and easier to clean out and maintain in my and fancyfreewv's estimation. We both think they clean much deeper on our "difficult" carpets. Fancyfreewv does have more long hair to clean off of the brushes whereas most of my Mastiff and Rottie hair makes it to the bin with much of it snagged on the teeth of the bin, pulled off of the brushes by the teeth. BTW... I reported this a few days ago and can confirm that it is consistently doing this.... We are getting a lot of dried leaves blowing in the open back door (we live in heavy woods). The 5xx's are not only handling them much better than the 4xxx's which usually have some caught, whole, in the brush and guard, but the 5xx's are actually chopping the leaves into small bits about .3 cm or less in size. It's pretty amazing. Probably the teeth on the bin are doing that.

If I didn't have the extreme amounts of hair and (much more) extreme dust and didn't need the quietness of the 5xx's in our living area I would certainly be using more 4xxx's rather than the 5xx's. The Buy dot com is a great deal.

I've purchased several new Disco's from Buy dot com in the past year. Some have had the swivel and some have had the fixed wheel. I've gotten old style VWs with all my Buy dot come Roombas.

Well I got the Discovery SE I figured why spend more on the roomba 535 thats not as reliable to the discovery series yet. Eventually woot with come out with the 500 series at a discounted price and by then one of them will have crapped out and this way I can start saving up for the Lawnba, which I hope will be out this spring. IF the chance that mine comes with the newer vertual walls, will I have to buy the scheduler pack with the 2 vertual walls or can I just order a scheduler remote? and can you schedule more then one roomba with the remote? Like can I schedule Frank and Discovery SE with the same remote? or would I have to just order an additonal scheduler remote and then be able to use one vertual wall with each one?

Thanks in advanced

Hello Mag48,
Eventually woot with come out with the 500 series at a discounted price...
If you are willing to wait aprox. 12 months for this to happen then go for it. Great things happen to those who wait!
...this way I can start saving up for the Lawnba, which I hope will be out this spring.
You and many others are patiently waiting for iRobot's version of a robotic lawn mower!
The 500 series scheduler is unable to schedule your Discovery series Roomba and vice versa. The Discovery series is able to send some limited commands (Clean, move forward, left, right, etc.). The Discovery series VWU can also be used with the 500 series but they stay very far away from them unlike the Discovery Roomba. Hope this helps.

When I'm talking about scheduling my disco's Im talking about the older version of the scheduler remote not the new one. My bad for not making it more clear. Say I ordered the scheduling kit with 2 scheduler virtual walls and 1 remote for disco generation. Would I be able to order an additonal scheduler remote and take 1 vertual wall from the first kit and enable it to be used with the second remote and then have 2 roombas being able to be scheduled with each of them utilizing one virtual wall? One of my roomba's is at my grandmothers house, and the discovery SE I just ordered is going to be used in my home, so I was hoping I could get 2 of them with scheduling capabilitys at the lowest price.

Yes. You can schedule as many Discovery Scheduler VWU as you wish with just ONE Scheduler Remote Control.

But only one roomba right? So if I wanted to schedule the roomba at my grandma's and the one at my house I would need two Scheduling remotes?

:D Thanks! So Im assuming both of the roombas would have the exact same schedule? Will iRobot send me the 2.1 firmware update if my bot comes and does not have it? Or if my sage does not have it?

You can schedule different schedules for your roombas. Once you schedule one, and are out of distance (your grandmother's house), you can schedule the other for a different time and day! The schedule will stay in your roomba and walls until you remove the batteries or reschedule it. Is this what you were asking?
