Janice, it's not a problem - I'm actually enjoying it and it's good to learn something new. Just sorry I'm so slow at this at the moment. Chris says he can do a complete Diagnostic run in 45 seconds - now when I do it I'm constantly referring back to the instructions and missing sequences of lights flashing on the Roomba - so I keep going backward and forward and it probably takes me about 20 minutes!!!!!!!!

Something like the veering to the left, Chris would have just zoomed straight into test 9b and paid more attention than me - I know it's not right, but not what's likely causing it - I just hope that a tinker here and there will fix it :D :D :D :D

As long as you are happy, play away then. It's good to have someone this side of the pond who is happy to open up the roombas

I'm not worried how long it takes, I've just hijacked my mums roomba to clean the floor.

All new skills take time to learn. Out of interest what is your real job?

Then tinker away!

Janice,

Chris asked me to redo the test that related to the veering to the left as it will make the difference between a new drive belt and a whole new wheel assembly (cost difference is quite significant).

Had some issues getting the test to run in the same way as Chris does - but got round that issue this morning - have done the test and am trying to get a video up on youtube to let Chris see it (that youtube seems to be a bit iffy at times) - the test looks like a PASS to me, but I just want him to confirm.

Assuming he's happy with the test, I expect he'll be in touch with costs for parts and you can then make a decision.

Order them from Chris, get him to send them to me and I'll fit them for you - run through the tests one more time (I think I'm just now getting the hang of this bit) - and send Eddie back to you.

Hi Janice, after much deliberation, emails and videos Debugger and I are reasonably certain of the issues that need to be addressed. FYI, Debugger did a fine job of relaying information to me and put a lot of effort into this project!

 Good job Gregor!

ISSUE #1: The brush deck set of gears is heavily worn especially the beater brush gear socket. this is creating a higher level of friction/drag then what the brush motor can handle. It is operational now and with the cleaning it is a bit better but a replacement set for these is required to bring it back to a reliable state.

ISSUE #2: The left Primary Drive Belt is slipping and is what is causing eddie to drift left. Replacing the belts may only improve the preformance and not elliminate the drift left alltogether. This is where the Bluetooth diagnostic tool would have come in handy if your Eddie was compatible with a BT device. The diagnostics could have shown if there was a drastic difference in the current draw on the left motor, without that data the left did PASS the manual test. The belts will need to be replaced.

The other things that are needed are a dust bin repair kit and brushes. Of course I will give a 15% discount to you and you can add anything parts wise that you need when ordering.

Having discussed the issue with my husband, I'm just going buy the parts I need to get Logan up and running. If I hadn't bought Logan I'd obviously be going with all the bits and bobs to get Eddie up to full health.

I blame the time of year coupled with the fact that I'm on state maternity pay. Maybe once I go back to part time work I'll get Eddie up to full speed again.

So its going to just be a set of brushes for the time being. I will ask if any of the other roomba owners in the family need anything before I order, I'll try and push some brush replenish kits etc.

Oh dear :(

I just don't know how I'm going to break the news to everyone up here.

Everybody seems to have heard about Eddie and is anxiously asking how he's getting on. I was out to Christmas lunch yesterday and a girl that I hadn't even mentioned Eddie to was asking me about him - the news has spread like wild fire!!!!!!!

My 2 cousins were in last night and wouldn't give me peace until I brought out Eddie and introduced them to him! Even the guys at work have been looking for updates......

At least I have the consolation that he's in a lot better condition than when he came up here :D
