Performance Differences between Roomba 5xx models

Post by kengib »

Are there any performance differences between the Roomba 5xx models such as; motor performance, dust bin capacity, battery capacity, cleaning and vacuuming ability.

It's the same machine with different accessories and extra features so no.

The machines themselves don't differ in performance but their inclusion or exclusion of Lighthouse technology will affect their efficiency when cleaning multiple rooms.

This is a bit misleading. I let both of mine wander through the house at will using the LH/VW only for blocking if I need it. No efficiency is sacrificed due to not forcing them to spend time in one room before letting them into another. The house gets cleaned eventually just as well. Geek Granny also uses her Roombas this way.

Without recording the robot's movements it's difficult to say whether the lighthouses make it truly more efficient, however when I used to use them Roomba was more thorough since it was cleaning rectangular rooms that were quite clearly defined...

Well my house is round not rectangular and very open with few doors so maybe that's why I see no difference.

I do have pocket doors in some places and bath and bedroom doors of course. Since these homes have no interior supporting walls, you can just leave things open which is what I did.

I was thinking about those concrete balloon-built dome-houses. They can be made in a day or so, that's without prefab parts.

It seems like Deltec builds them by hand from wood?

Nancy, Thanks for that link about circular houses. I didn't know they existed! I love that idea. When I first read your post, I thought you meant an octagon house (http://www.gcv.org/attractions/historic ... agon.shtml).

No these are wooden and are built on the site from pre-assembled sections. It takes as long as a normal home to build. Only one post in the center of the hub and spoke flooring and roof design.

Mine has poured foundation above ground that mimics the 14 sections of the sides and then the top floor above that is the wood.

This could be octagon (the smallest size) but they go way up in diameter as you add more sides. I also put two rectangular wings on mine.
