My first Looj run

Post by weezoh »

I took the looj for its first run this evening - about 60 mins or so (I ran out of light). I did two approx 20' sections of my 1st floor gutter. The looj seemed to run fine under the braces, but occasionally wanted to creep up the sides of the gutter. The leaves were wet but not really really packed in and the looj's auger did a good job of flinging them out for the most part.

I had to back the looj up and run it forward pretty much every 2 - 3' to get through the detritus. Overall i'm getting the hang of it. A couple times it flipped over - I didn't notice since I retreated to the ground after putting the looj in the gutters and ran it from down there. but once I noticed I was able to flip it using the reverse auger most of the time. Once the antenna managed to really get wedged in the gutter which trapped the looj until I freed it.

The strangest thing I noticed when I took it down was it was moving forward and then making a noise and not moving forward any farther - when I took it down I saw one of the treads got flipped around so it was inside-out on the driving wheels. Not sure how that happened, but it happened in the gutter for sure.

Overall I'm happy with it thusfar, I still have my upper gutters to do but I think i'll need another ladder for that.

Great feedback Weezoh! Thanks for sharing your experience with the Looj, many are just waiting at the fence to see if the remote controlled robot really works. Is it possible to post some pictures of your robot ? Continue enjoying your new robot!

I read this review and chuckled. It's pretty much what I expected the Looj to do.

I had read that one too - I was kind of surprised that mine didn't seem to ride up on the debris. Also mine was only flinging leaves / seeds about 4 - 6 feet. so I guess it's a case of YMMV.

I would think that one would want the mess as dry as possible. Maybe reviewers gutter mess was too wet. I'm hoping to try mine out tomorrow unless it rains; rain predicted but this is Texas so we'll see. :?

where'd you buy it?

Does any place like costco carry it, so it would be easy to buy to try (and take back er if it's a slacker?)

Not at the moment, also iRobot has limitations on the return policy for these types of robots. :?

From the Amazon review
It felt like I was assisting a wounded turtle.
Who doesn't get a buzz assisting wounded turtles? I'd do that all day if I could.

I was hoping for more comments on Looj--specifically, how it handled pine needles/cones. I guess I'll wait a little longer before purchasing...and get the ladder & gloves out.

First Looj Run -- unhappy Looj'er

Post by jmoorejr »

:(

First run was great. Did about 80 feet of gutters before juice ran out.

Recharged it overnight. Next day I turned it on.. DEAD!

The light on the remote is green, and blinks when I send signals.
The light on the robot is green.

No response. I've emailed the Roomba folks, who suggested I recharge everything. That's the end of consumer support. No replies, and no help!

It's totally dead.

Anyone else have this experience?

To update I ran my Looj for the 2nd time today

The leaves were damp but partially dry (rained a couple nights ago) the looj performed better this time around than the first -- I'm thinking that the battery having been discharged and recharged is conditioning itself maybe.

But I had plenty of power over about the hour I ran it. on my back yard gutters it didn't get flipped over once but did on the front gutters. Also in the front I had one of the treads go inside out on me and had to climb up and reverse it. However it was a lot better than I remember it being in November.

I got about 3/4 of a large outdoor leaf bag full of leaves and seeds out of just the front (back i just don't care and will mow over)
