Another HEPA filter mod
You can order 3 new filters from Neato for around $20 shipped. Use them until one wears out then convert it to a HEPA style filter by ordering a Kenmore HEPA filter #86889 for around $5 shipped. Each Kenmore filter can be cut to make two HEPA filters for the Neato dust bin and lowers the cost to about $2.50 each plus a little labor and a tube of aquarium sealer ($2) that should last for about 10 HEPA filter mods.

Re: Another HEPA filter mod
NICE mod Ed! If memory serves correctly, this might be the cheapest replacement filter (Correct me if I'm wrong).
If I had a Neato, I would just modify the filter to use the HEPA filter right from the get-go.
Do you have plans on manufacturing/sell them to our members?

Re: Another HEPA filter mod
Good question Chris, Lets see $7 for a Neato filter plus $3 for a HEPA part, a little labor, a little glue $6, plus shipping USPS First class mail $2 to most areas, grand total $18. Don't know how many members would pay that amount.

Re: Another HEPA filter mod
For a regular filter, that's costly, but a HEPA filter? I think that's a fair price if a person doesn't have the knowledge/tools to perform this themselves..
I would make a few and put it up on your website to see.

If your build quality is as good as the Li-Ion battery I bought from you for my Roomba Discovery, you can count me in as well.vic7767 wrote:Thanks Chris, I might build a few and see if anyone wants one.

Re: Another HEPA filter mod
Vic, hows the airflow of this HEPA filter compared to the stock one? Maintenance wise any difference (easily clogged? More/less frequent cleaning?)?

I am letting the clear aquarium sealer set and cure before test runs can be performed and an evaluation made.dinkydong wrote:Vic, hows the airflow of this HEPA filter compared to the stock one? Maintenance wise any difference (easily clogged? More/less frequent cleaning?)?
However, if it behaves anything like the Roomba 700 HEPA filters, there will be about the same amount of debris build-up in the bin and a lot of dust in the filter. I use an air compressor to clean them as well as the bin and the rest of the robot.

You can get the filters here for $15 shipped. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Neato-XV-11-Rep ... 23130163eb
Where ddid you get the HEPA filter?

Re: Another HEPA filter mod
Great job, Vic! I hope you are going to make them available on your site.
Anyway I think that HEPA filters should be replaced rather than cleaned, otherwise this could be very dangerous to health..... or am I wrong?
Probably adding a low cost replaceable pre-filter could greatly improve the durability of the HEPA filter. In my experience, I need to empty the bin almost after every run.

Re: Another HEPA filter mod
excellent mod vic! =D
yours look much more compact than mine so i think the airflow will increase along with the surface area.
any plans to engineer a prefilter to go along with this?

There's not a pre-filter on the Roomba HEPA filters so present plans don't include that option for the Neato.fetish wrote: any plans to engineer a prefilter to go along with this?

Re: Another HEPA filter mod
Completed proto-type, have a look and share your comments. I've ordered all the components to fabricate several of these Neato-HEPA filters in about a week and should have them on the website @ $18 including USPS shipping.

Re: Another HEPA filter mod
Nice one vic. Any words on the performance and maintainability versus the stock filter?
Re: Another HEPA filter mod
Nice job Vic, your fin density is very similar to mine and I've found that firmware v2.1 doesn't have an issue thinking there is no filter present as it does with some of the others mods which have much lower fin densities.
Btw, one issue I have found with my unit is the filter fins are very delicate and very easily damaged if I use my full size vac to clean the filter.

Vic, any update on the filters? Hows the airflow like (same as stock?)? Any issue(s) with regards to cleaning them?

Re: Another HEPA filter mod
The HEPA filter seems to perform OK, the Neato doesn't complain. I just use an air compressor to clean out the filter. It may hold up well over many cleanings. The issue I have is finding the time to build some of these to offer.

No hurry, take your time.
