Re: What roomba do I have???
Could be the 407.
Re: What roomba do I have???
It doesn't seem to have a way to dock. But, it has the docking pads on the bottom. I guess it has a serial port, but it is covered up by the plastic insert. If I can use the serial port and doc, I am in business. I am the one that burnt up two Roomba motherboards by plugging a shorted factory i-robot cable for serial communications in them. When i got my new cable in, the first thing I did was take it apart and look for solder globs.
Thanks,
Thanks,

If it has charging plates on the bottom then it can be used with a home base. Even though there is no dock button, at a predetermined voltage (around 12) it will begin to seek a dock. Just above the charging jack will be the 7pin mini din connector that provides the SCI function.

Thanks!
Re: What roomba do I have???
It seems to be a Roomba 400 as I can tell. I got to the serial port and roombastatus showed it was working and I can control it. It did not seem to dock. But, we will take one step at a time. It has a body that looks like the 4XXX, but curiously, it has the spring loaded wheels like my R530. The battery is of 4XXX and the 4120 battery fits. It chugs right along. It is a pretty blue color. I have controlled it in Roborealm. I was wondering where we download the SCSI tester. I can't remember where I got it. I found that the DC power jack is bad. I can jiggle it and make it work. That may be why it does not charge on the charger.

Based on the physical description posted so far... You have a 440 Roomba which is a merger of mostly 4th gen with a dash of 5th gen.

Instead of having a single button like the one above, it has an OVAL shape one that says only CLEAN. Weird? Huh?

That's it ! I just didn't know it had 500 style drive wheels.
Re: What roomba do I have???
Yep either a 405 or 408. I just have to get it to dock. The battery charges with the charger. But, on the dock, it did not.

Re: What roomba do I have???
Your charging issue may be caused by the power jack normally closed contact not closing when the power supply plug is removed from the side of the Roomba. If the contact does not close then the Roomba thinks it's still connected to the power supply.

Someone said that a 405 is simply a 400 that was purchased NOT from Irobot.

Re: What roomba do I have???
iRobot makes all the different models. It's just that some model numbers are assigned to different companies for resale. ex. HSN sold the 535 and that was the only place it could be purchased from when it first came out.
Re: What roomba do I have???
I fixed the DC power jack. It had a cold solder joint and the solder was broken and separated off of the pin and pc trace. I just heated it up and applied solder and it was good as new.
But, it still will not dock and won't charge if I hook it up to the charger docking station. I will however charge manually by plugging the ac adapter in. Do you think it is the version of firmware causing this? It is the 405. I believe it was manufactured after the 4120 because of the spring wheels. But, it has the same old 4XXX motherboard and battery.

what do you meen by spring wheels the 400 and i think even the 300 had sprung wheels
400/disco disassembly's (everything down to the PCB)

one day many years from now a person will say "right I'll just ROOMBA downstairs" instead of hoover
oh wait I already do
main bot: neato xv-15 (Europe xv-11)
to sell (one day): roomba sage and silver (both 400's)

Re: What roomba do I have???
I forgot what models I have. It is either 4210 or 4120. I think 4210. Those wheels seemed to be fixed if I remember. But, the wheels in my 530 drop down and spring up. This unit , the 405 has the same wheels as the 530. I don't know how else to explain it. Right now, my 4210 is out for repair so I can't check it. Sometimes, I don't explain very well.
Sorry.
Sorry.

Re: What roomba do I have???
All the Roomba models have spring assisted drive wheels. The main change was on the front wheel. It has changed from a fixed to a swivel. The 4XX models were introduced after the 4XXX models.
Have you tested that the home base will work with another Roomba?

Re: What roomba do I have???
I have two home bases. One for the 530 which I just burnt up the motherboard.
The other one is for the 4210.
The 4210 has pads that are 3.75" apart. They perfectly match the 450's pads. But the unit does not fit on the charger properly.
The pads on the 530 are exactly 3.5" so they don't match up.
The 405 does NOT seek the charger at least so far. But, it DOES communicate with the comm port.
Since it was built AFTER the 4210, is it going to need zapping with that osmar or whatever it is called?
Probably it is because of this front wheel you are talking about.
I can't physically check to 4210 because it was sent off for repairs.

Re: What roomba do I have???
No, your 405 will not require the pre Oct 05 OSMO device for the tachometer issue or the Open Interface Hacker OSMO since the OI commands are working.
The home base issue of not seating well with the 405 is probably due to the swivel wheel instead of the fixed wheel. The home base accessory is not a cross platform unit, in other words the 500, 600, and 700 standard and mini home base is not designed for the earlier model Roombas.
