here is a link to a big pic on irobot's site

let me know if you want pics of something specific and i will snap a few.

the only thing the pic on irobots site doesn't show is that when you press the clock or schedule button the time is displayed below the buttons on the top (its red numbers/letters and glows throw the dark plastic)

New 570s arrive today...

Post by GadgetHome »

The two 570s I ordered from iRobot on 8/22 are on the delivery truck today, arriving 2-3 weeks later than I expected. Had I known the wait would have been so long, I might have opted for the 560s instead. Oh well. Anyway, I'm eager to see them in action.

This could explain a lot about the 5xx series and the delays and mistakes. Found on news with SEC filings for IRobot.

The stock is down today as well on this news.

BURLINGTON, Mass., Oct. 10, 2007 - iRobot Corp. (IRBT) today announced that its third quarter 2007 financial results will be impacted by initial production delays experienced on the iRobot(R)Roomba(R) 500 Series Vacuum Cleaning Robot. "Our financial expectations for 2007 remain unchanged," said Colin Angle, iRobot chief executive officer. "However, the production ramp up by our new contract manufacturer was slower than our initial targeted projections and consequently, revenue from delayed shipments will be recognized in the fourth quarter, resulting in revenue for the third quarter of between $63 million and $64 million," he added. "This shift from the third to fourth quarters, coupled with unanticipated litigation expenses associated with our legal actions against a former employee and his company, will result in a pre-tax loss of $1 million to $1.5 million for the third quarter."

What's this about litigation against a former employee and his company? Is it somebody making the Roomba clones we have seen?

If you read the news section on this forum site you will see that a former employee is supposed to have taken information/plans/property for the military robots and then recently got a government contract that IRobot lost.

IRobot is contending that he used their information to start his company and the suit is now being litigated.

I guess you haven't been following the stories in the Robotic News forum. The story has been very fascinating, and it would seem that iRobot should easily win the case with what has come out in trial already.

Here are a couple of good links to get you caught up! :)

I noticed that the shipping delay warning on the 570 has been removed.
Hopefully I will see an email soon saying they're shipping my roomba.

I wonder if they would make more money if they didn't ship out your order in parts. Really, getting my 570 filters before my roomba isn't going to do much for me. This happened when I ordered the scooba too! I received 5 shipments (no joke) to my location (up in Canada) for the Scooba and it's parts (and roomba parts) for one order... ridiculous.

An interesting article:

(If you haven't read it already)

I have a roomba named Roomba!, a sooba named Scooba! and a cat named Kitty! (I'm very creative huh?)

(End Rant)

I agree, they botched an order from me last month of 62 units. Only 5 were incorrect and they 1. shipped everything seperate and 2. opted to pay to ship everything back instead of correcting only the 5 that were the wrong model. How can they make money if they make decisions like this on a simple mistake? I even called Corporate office and spoke to the domestic sales coordinator and this is the resolve they thought was best.... to return the whole order and reorder again.
 Lets see $6,000 in shipping costs vs swap out 5 units in a 62 unit order? ummm... just go ahead and ship'em all back and reorder again...Ya that was the right thing to do.

It seems interesting that the picture from the website (at the top of this page) shows the Command Center (pre-production?) with no "clock" button, however it DOES have a lamp located on the front face that signals a low battery condition. The production unit (also shown on this page) has the clock function but is missing the low battery signal light. So how does it signal that the battery needs to be replaced? The manual is no help.

I wonder if there are additional, functional differences? Plus, I don't see a way to upgrade/update the Command Center but it would be interesting if the clean button would reflect the charge state of the roomba so I don't have to get up to see.

Got my new 570.

Post by ParanoidPickle »

So my 570 just arrived on Friday.
It is leaps and bounds better than previous model.

Here are my two cents:

I like the light houses/VR Walls. The fact they turn on automatically makes scheduling much more intuitive.

The new remote is much, much better than the previous model. You can use it from very far away, so that means you can keep it by your door and click clean before you leave. With the old model, I would have to hold it so close that i might as well just click the button with my foot.

The dock button is much better than holding two buttons.
(What does max clean do any ways?)

The slow down for walls feature seems to only work about 1/3 of the time in my apartment. It especially doesn't work for the legs of tables and chairs. (Where are these sensors?)

I don't like how you can remove the portion of the dust bin that contain the filter. It would be something I would like to wash clean. (Unless you can remove it and I'm just daft)

The new wall brush is good, but if it runs along a rugs at a certain angle it will lift the rug up and then the roomba will crawl on it and get stuck.

The new roomba is better at running over cords and transitions much better from rugs to lino (and vice versa)

And Finally...
The new brushes are actually harder to clean cat hair off of than the old Pet Model. (In my opinion)
