My 560 needs a new CHM. The broken one it's red. The unit is over a year old so there is no warranty. I've read about the black CHM but I cannot see it on the IRobot site. I see only the green one. Is this my only/best option? Is its brush better for pets than the red one?

Have you taken apart your broken CHM? Can it be fixed with Vic's bearing mod?
If not, you can purchase a green one and install the bearings. I can't comment if the green brushes are better/stiffer than what comes in the red CHM.

The metal shaft of one of the gears have moved and tore through the red plastic. Cannot be fixed.

IMHO buy the green one and keep an eye on it. You will want to add a bearing kit before wear gets too bad.
