Whos' online

Post by vic7767 »

When seeing the number of registered users and then looking at the registered user names below the actual number, they don't add up. Why ?

Vic7767, if you actually click where it says Who is online, it shows you the invisible Bots that it counts also, but isn't displayed on the main page. Craig did it that way to keep the main page uncluttered.

Exactly right. The new version of the forum software keeps track of all search engine bots as registered users. I would assume that most people would prefer to see that vic7767 is online, but very few would care to know about the googlebot.

However, if you are really interested, you can still click the Who is Online link to see all the bots too! ;)

Craig

Yea. I prefer it that way. I dislike Vista, and Windows 7 is based off of it (Plus it being too new). I tried Windows 7 for a little bit (Burned the DVD. It's now a coaster). I'll stick with my XP.

There's a reason why you won't see any large-scaled businesses jump to Windows 7. I tend to follow suit.

I don't really care about seeing the bots but now I understand that the bots are included in the total count. Thanks for the explanations.

I just noticed that no matter what forum or topic I have been to over the last few days the same two users are always shown as browsing the forum - bolero1000 and pbeaudet. Have they been taken over by spambots? I recall them being valid users. How can they be everywhere at once?

It could be due to do a person leaving that particular 'tab' open (If they use tabs) or keep their browser open to that page.

Right now:
bolero1000 is Viewing topics in iRobot Roomba and Scooba Chat

pbeaudet is in Robot Chat (Meaning they are either looking in a different area (Besides Robot Chat, ie News, Blogs, etc), or is idle/currently in the main Robot Reviews forum.

I'm sure everything is OK.. ;)
