Asian Postal Subsidy

A year from now all those cheap parts available in the U.S. on Ebay etc. from Asia with free shipping may cost more. I always thought that postage had to be subsidized, but did not realize it is the U.S. that pays that bill under an old treaty for postal services, and the administration is now objecting to it, reported in the WSJ. Withdrawal from the 144 year old UPU, Universal Postal Union treaty has been announced. U.S. companies have complained China gets lower shipping costs to U.S. customers than they do domestically, without even any international shipping costs -- and we pay taxes for it. Overseas shipments from the U.S. are very expensive compared to domestic in-country rates.
