J7 Problems

Post by akaegi6266 »

I recently bought a J7 to clean my 1 story house. Everything was great for the first 2-3 weeks. I bought the robot vacuum to help control pet hair in the living room, kitchen area and hallways where I either have distressed oak floor in the first and tiled floor in the other two area. However I am becoming annoyed because after a while the roomba will act like a headless chicken in the tile floor, around and around in one tile and then will give me an error, "...error 6, near a cliff, move robot..." and will not finish cleaning the tiled floor.

I understand this cleaning robots have a problem with transitions of light surface to dark surface or with dark shadows projected on the floor. After so many years of this going on you would think they would have installed an option to disable the cliff sensors either through the app or physically with a switch.

I have searched and read this forum and there are some options...1. the white paper cut to the size of entire cliff sensor (including the part inside the bumper)..2. the "aluminum" tape used in AC's/furnaces...3....physically tearing down the robot and tapping together the emitter and receiver of the cliff sensors.

I would like to have a permanent solution like #3 but I am unable to locate a service manual for the J7 to disassemble the unit to get to the cliff sensors...is there one out there that is available.....or is the i7 close to J7 that I can use the videos to do this work?
