Neato Botvac

Hi 3kgt, could you please took some pictures and post here? I'm especially interested in the inside part when dustbin is removed from Neato body and the roller brush is out of the socket. As well, bearing parts on brush ends are interesting parts to see!

Did first run and here is what i can say

Its faster than the first gen neato
More powerfull vacum without any dout! (Testing by airflow in the back)
Dosent come as close to walls wich is bad!
The brush sounds much more (Regular brush, dnt have helix in the botvac) but the motor is Much more quaiter, and the jet sound is gone.
It did hit lower objects a couple of times, but sadly i had to go out and didnt see the whole run!
It did clean my apartment in 1 charge wich is good.
a bit slower than first gean neato on carpet.

Overall im happy now! I Would recomended it over regualar neato so far! But hopefully it will come closer to the walls soon..
But i will return this unit and get a Botvac 80 or 85 with Helix brish, the regular brush on hard flour is just too much! If your at home then you will not be able to run it and if you live in an apartment like me you will for sure get sued by others cause of loud sound.

Shows a nice job on the front brush, really tight against the wall side, better mounting.
The interesting changes to the bumper to accommodate would be inside.

Thanks for the pictures. Is the unit substantially larger than the XV series? The first picture makes it seem like it's huge compared to the XV, but it may just be the angle of the photo.

Side brush is very similar to the one on vr100. Does not need to be large to be effective. In fact it works a lot better than the bigger brushes on my other robots. Very impressed with the main brush and inlet reaching the edge of the robot. I'm hoping the edge hugging issue is a temporary one as it defeats the purpose of the engineering tweaks they've made physically.
Looks very promising so far and sounds like neato have in fact quietly been paying attention to us.

They could have known all these needs before selling the first unit. Hard to miss. Costs of development. Planned obsolescence.

Thanks for those pics, 3kgt it would be nice to see the bottom of the robot, incl. brush housing. I'm just curious how they changed the brush sockets on each side to prevent hairs clogging in this space (huge problem in XV-11, as I remember..)

the roller brush looks itself quite different shape design than the old roller...is it made from plastic or metal right now? and the end caps/bearings as well are different...hope it will prevent tangling hairs in these spaces and getting them inside gears/belts compartment, as well as improved suction...

Nice for Brush, belt is no more involved directly with the roller it look like you hooked it on the shaft and place the bearing on the other hand if i am correct.

The drop sensors also move parallel to the front bumper clearing space for the designers of the bigger brush size,
And maybe doing better early detection by moving forward.

They might be keeping the side brush from getting crunched against the wall. Vorwerk added a sort of deflecting protrusion on the brush guard that appears to keep the brush bent downwards.

Answer to shingal is you are still limited to one clean in a day.. schelduing is same with other words.
You have more stuff in the menu like turn led off. Turn bin full warning off.
3: Its more dust proff now so dust wont be able to enter the gears and intern as easy as before, and overall I actually do take back what I said about bad build quality.. some parts seem to be bad not all!
For example the holder for the brush compartment is to lean and you get the feeling that it will brake buy pulling it out!
Main Brush doesn’t get as dirty for some reason!
Still side brush is not soo good cause of the unit not moving as close to the walls as the new 3.0 firmware on the older neato.. You can compare it to the older firmwares of the neato! Hopefully they will fix that ..
Dust wont be entering the inside beside the tire compartment either like before.

Answer to Inveneo is that its not much larger, you wont notice it so much! More pictures will show yoy

A4frifillpad Im not so sure about side brush.. One more thing is that one one side it will be hitting the tires, and on a another it will be hitting the body, after only 1 run you could clearly see that the brush was pushing against the body and I had to clean that spot.. See pictures soon

4: Side brush has its own motor..

On first run no dust was stuck in the enternce, and for the first time my dust bin wasnt completly full! I got a parrot and carpets so dust bin usually is full to almost full after each run...
Thow the filters are so loong an thing that you have to be carefull putting it in and out.

Will even try to take a short film tomorw and post it to you...

Well , for my observation , side brush is a gamic. If I look the irobot 595, the side brush only push the dust in the air, you can clearly see it when it pass near a window in a sunlight beam.

The neato push the dust in the air only when it turns around and the exhaust fan push air in dirty spot direction.

I don't know if the new neato vacuum is strong enough to keep the light dust down when the side brush kick-in.

Is the main reason why I bough a neato. the irobot is literally a sh** slinger when your pet is sick....

So as can see they are almost same size (If not exact same!) The white colour dose make it look a bit bigger in the pictures, but live its the same for my eyes.. its thow much more premium look compared to the old one.. and more modern design in a way

Would love to get my hands on the Helix/pet brush.. Cause i can garante you that the brush in the pictures are louder than same brush on older neato.. and its too damn loud.. But the vacum itself is almost soundless and more powerfull! Jet sound is gone
for me it would defenitly be the helix brush for this one.
Overall im happy that neato finaly did some change.. And i will be changing my older one for a botvac if all is good!
and will even buy a LG homebot 3 soon too (Have to test that one too)

The head-to-head Botvac and XV photos above show the bumper on the Botvac is no closer to the floor than on the Neato. It will have the same problem with low furniture, designer furniture etc. as the Neato, and moreover, may not be fixable. The bumper structure looks different and may not be practical to modify in any simple way.

The apparent wider width of the Botvac is likely an optical illusion caused by the shallower curve of the back, which the eye extends around to what would be a wider width intersection with the front, plus the fact it is longer front to back.

There appears to be no way to update the firmware. For all the photos presented to show off the unit, not one reveals any connection for updating. Retailers for these items have never been equipped to service units, not to mention the problems of overseas customers. Since the software supplied is reported to run the unit farther from the wall than optimal, virtually losing all the advantages of the mechanical improvements, I would hesitate to buy until fixed.

That the unit moves slower on carpets than the XV is likely the result of the wider brush and larger drag from that on the carpet, with no increase in traction or wheel power. Going slower on carpets cleans them more. The carpet drag reducing slider modification would increase speed on carpets, and may still be needed on some types of carpet anyway.

It is like they make mechanical and electronic internal improvements without regard to the over-all task performed, and the effect of the furniture, flooring etc. in a house. A very narrow sort of vision for design.
