how to test the side brush motor on Botvac models

Post by bruce9241 »

Hello,

Does anyone know how to test this side brush motor? On the Neato Control software it has the side brush testing option, but it doesn't seem to work. How do I know if a side brush motor works besides actually installing it and running the vacuum?

I think it's a bug in Neato Control. My workaround on V3.3:

1. Tick "Brush" - the main brush will start, speed is irrelevant.
2. Tick "Side Brush" - the main brush will stop and the side brush will start.
3. Untick "Brush" - should be no change in motor operation.
4. Untick Side "Brush" - side brush stops.

Text commands (from the Help command) were posted for the side brush at http://www.robotreviews.com/chat/viewto ... 19#p132219
SetMotor SideBrushEnable etc.
SideBrushEnable - Enable Side Brush Motor motor
SideBrushDisable - Enable Side Brush Motor motor
SideBrushOn - Enable the Side Brush
SideBrushOff - Disable the Side Brush
SideBrushPower - Side Brush maximum power in milliwatts (presumably has a default value if omitted)
Neato Control just sends such commands with its graphical interface. These commands are not included in the USB manual at the Neato website, never updated for Botvac.

[edit] SetMotor requires TestMode ON -- how Neato Control turns that on and off don't know, maybe automatic. Test mode turns on power lines to motors, which then turn under PWM signal controls. TestMode must be manually turned off (done by orderly exit from Neato Control I think, disconnecting before closing).
