Post by PSVolley »

When will the new Discovery be out? I have heard that they will be soon, and I can't find the older version. Where can I find out details?

Help! :!:

More Info

Post by PSVolley »

I went to Bed Bath and Beyond last night. They no longer carry the Roomba Pro Elite, but they have 4 new Roomba Discovery (4210, I think) on order. They have a few other new models coming in also. I can't find any info on the Roomba website, thought they may be the new models coming out. Did a quick search on the web, found a few hits that made mention of the new model, (see http://www.dreamretail.com/SV020190900640.html )

They have the new Discovery in stock at www.sharperimage.com and in some of their stores too.

Roomba Discovery SE availability?

Post by Guest »

... but no merchant carries the Discovery SE yet? So far I've only seen people claim they have the white Discovery

True but the SE is the same unit with a $20 "better" paint job :).

Yeah, that paint must be hard to manufacture.

Don't forget the charging wall mount. To me, that feature is definitely worth an extra $20, more than the paint job but I don't want to wait forever.

According to iRobot all of the new models should be in stores this weekend. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

My Discovery (not SE) came with a wall mount for the vac and remote.

Discovery SE's wall mount is for charging too

I think the Discovery SE's wall mount is different: it is a charging one. Apparently wall unit for the regular Discover is just for storage, not for charging:

SE Is Better

Post by Techfan »

Both of these things are true.
The new SE model comes with:
A CHARGING wall mount
A "better" paint job (which in my opinion IS a better paint job because it looks better AND the materials used in the new paint are more shiney and will last longer)
Enhanced programming
There were a few improvements made in Roombas programming including:
Size Estimation (how it deals with the number of inputs it uses to automaticly figure out the estimate size of the room and the most efficient way to clean the room considering battery power)
Artificial Intelligence (its response to its enviornment, such as when it bumps into an object what to do and where to go, etc.)
Escape Procedures (what it does when Roomba attempts to free itself of such things as rug fringes and what not, a very smart and cool feature in my opinion I might add)
and Search Mode (when it tries to find home base after automaticly detecting low battery output or when finished cleaning).

Trust Me These Improvements Can Be Very Useful.

iRobot says that the programming is the same in both the Discovery and Discovery SE.

Correct.

The only difference between the Discovery and the Discovery SE is the paint job and the charging wall mount.

That's Odd

Post by Techfan »

That's Odd.

There's a tech magazine I subscribe to here in Westford Mass. U.S. that comes out with a new magazine every 10 days.

The last edition was written on the 22nd of August.

This magazine reports on many things and this week there was a very big and thorough report on the new Roomba Discovery Series.

The mag. clearly states that IRobot got hold of a new system build that works great on the 16 bit processors like those installed in the new Discovery Series, IRobot took this advantage and re-did a lot of the programming in the new Roomba Discovery SE.

It might just be a hoax but I don't think so because the people who write this magazine are very thorough, precise, accurate, and 100% reliable. They never get their facts wrong. I trust them as a major news source for all the latest technology.

I HATE BEING WRONG ABOUT THINGS!

So trust me I will do a very thorough investigation on this and get back to you guys.

The Magazine Comes Out With A New Edition On The 1St. I'll Write Another Post After I know What's Going On Probably Around The 3Rd.

Interesting.

If that is true, it's not something that iRobot has ever stated publicly so far as I know.

Best bet would be to post the question in the iRobot Q&A thread. Laura from iRobot would be the one to definitively answer that question one way or the other.

Oh my god,

You wouldn't even believe what happened over here even if I told you...

A certain "person" we "know" from "past experiences" with other companies took over the legal rights to the magazine.

There now putting faulty info out about things that the mag. has previously talked about because he knows there's nothing we can do about it. (A very wacko "person", think Enron, only on a much smaller scale)! RRR...

Just Forget I Said Anything Before.

P.S. There do appear to be other "real" differences however, "Discovery SE" brought up in another thread that the SE was bigger than the rest of Discovery. I searched Google about this and some websites DID state that Discovery SE was bigger than the rest of Discovery. Also some websites refer to certain chargers and Home Bases being specificaly for the SE. Anybody know anything about this?

I assume they are mistaken. The regular Wall Mount and the Charging Wall Mount both list that they will fit ALL of the Discovery models. The Wall Mount is extremely form fitted and so a larger sized model wouldn't fit into it.

I am not disagreeing with you, as I have never used the wall mount before, but why would (I counted six) different websites all list that the SE was bigger? It just doesn't make sense. :?

I will contact iRobot and ask them.
