My First Roomba - Hello All

Post by dalepearson »

Hiya guys and gals.

I thought I would make a proper introduction post.
I am based in the UK and earlier this week I got my hands on a new Roomba 560.
This 560 has the red chm, and supports lighthouses. The lighthouse support was something I wanted in an effort to ensure multiple rooms get cleaned.
I have also ordered an aerobin, so I look forward to testing this out also.
Overall I am very impressed with the cleaning. The only problem I seem to have is it not completing its mission.
I have my roomba setup to clean 3 rooms and a hall. I have used the lighthouse to create 2 zones, 1 is the lounge (dock currently here) and kitchen, then hall and dinning room.
I have moved the dock around, but it doesnt seem to be helping.
When watching I see the Roomba's light goes red then it goes off straight away. Perhaps the battery charge will get better over the week? I thought the battery should allow the Roomba to run for 120 mins, and its not running that long for sure.

I welcome any suggestion to improve this, also what brushes can I put in my red chm, only red ones, or are black or green compatible?

Thanks for creating a great forum.

How long you have had that battery for? More or less you may need a new battery. Contact the seller, if it was a "just bought Roomba" for a new battery.

Sounds like the battery to me. I would also make sure the brushes and everything are spinning without anything holding them back, because if something is stuck in a wheel or whatever, it could be placing a strain on the motor causing the battery to run down a lot faster.I found out that was what was happening to my 530, Stewie, when his battery was only lasting about 40 minutes per cleaning. I got him another CHM that wasn't all gummed up and that same battery runs well over an hour now.

It might be an issue where it just needs a reset! After sitting in the Roomba uncharged for up to 6 weeks going through customs etc., it may need to be hard reset and a 72 charge.

Got my aerobin from imayne, big improvement you can feel the jet of air out the back, awesome suckage :)
Not given it a proper run yet as I am trying to leave the Roomba on charge for 72 hours to see if that helps the run time. iRobot have sent me a new battery today so that is my backup plan if the long charge shows no improvement.

72 hour charge did no good, if anything it was worse as it went red and didnt even finish one room.
I have fitted the new battery, and will now let it do its 16 hour thing :)
Patience with new toys is not my strong point, I want to get it cleaning :)
