I went by their booth at CES this year. I was more intrigued by their robotic air cleaner, more than anything. ;)

I wasn't too impressed with their robotic vacuum.

Robotic air cleaner??? A robot that moves around cleaning the air?

Back to the R750, do u have any idea how its smart mapping works? Or is it relying on the virtual walls to identify the rooms?

Yes, it moves around the home sensing the quality of air, and if it needs to purify the air, it will. Pretty cool!!

Anyways, back to the R750. I don't have a clue as to how it uses the virtual walls.

The manufacturer claims that it uses mapping to optimise cleaning pattern. The robot has a gyro sensor and uses new fancy lithium iron phosphate batteries for longer calendar life.

Rydis R750: the first impression

Post by Aurobo »

Here is the first impression on the Rydis R-750.

The robot is really well manufactured. Its real appearance is actually better then how it looks on photos, and its finish is very nice (as Korean guys always do :) ). The robot does have low profile, and, what is more important, you could never think of it as of another copy of Roomba. It undoubtedly has some innovations inside. For example, the dust bin is very easy to insert/remove, and the bin has a cover with magnet locks that is extremely convenient to handle. The main brush is easily removable also. So, I'd give A+ for the mechanical design.

We did not perform our own tests, but concluding from the data that was received directly from the manufacturer, the Rydis overall performance should be at least as good as the Neato's one. My guess is that it could be true indeed, as far as they have designed their own vacuuming system and the robot uses room mapping algorithm. On the other hand, lacking of the fragile laser scanning RPS sensor could make this robot more reliable, then Neato.

In brief:
Pros: Good mechanical (and possibly software) design. Side brushes and virtual wall. Dodgy gesture-sensitive control :)
Cons: New model and, as consequence, lack of statistics and hard-testing.

Thanks for the review!

Can u tell us more about its mapping system? It seems to rely only on the gyro sensor for mapping (there's no camera nor a laser system). Is it able to effectively map out your cleaning environment? Any areas left out? Able to handle carpet and rugs? There's supposedly a 3-level vacuum power, do u have to set it each time u activate the bot? Any scheduling function? How long does it take to complete its cleaning in your environment?

Here are the answers that we received from the manufacturer Moneual: :!:

1. Mapping system: we use 3D Gyro-sensor and Accelerometer. Most of the robot vacuum cleaners who have a camera are not really using their camera as main source of route planning or pattern designation. Rather, it is used for correcting their poor dead-reckoning mapping system. Moneual is also doing some research with cameras and image recognition, and possibly will offer such a system in future.
2. We have tested the cleaning efficiency according to the IEC60 standard, our MR7700 (R750) is able to give 70-80% coverage.
3. Our IR cliff sensor is very sophisticated, and it is able to detect carpets and changes in height of the floor.
4. Three level-vacuum power is changed automatically as robot detects surface of the floor as well as their condition and will adjust automatically.
5. Schedule function is embedded, of course, and the user can set time of cleaning.
6. The cleaning time depends on how large is the area to clean. MR7700 is as fast as Roomba (30cm/Sec) and will cover the similar area at the same time. However, in repeated cleaning, our 4th generation LiFeO4 Battery has an advantage of rapid re-charging, which will take only half of the time it takes for Roomba (with Ni-Cd battery) and 1.5 times faster than Li-Ion batteries.
